The Sanders Award for Student Advocacy is named for one of the truest and best friends the Association has ever had...a man who advocated for the creation of a statewide student association when he was still on the staff of the UNC General Administration. John L. Sanders went on to direct the UNC Institute of Government, now named in his honor.
Each year the association announces one or more recipients of the John L. Sanders Student Advocacy Award, which is in fact the highest individual honor bestowed by students upon a member of the University of North Carolina community. With the conferring of this award, students representing the University of North Carolina system express gratitude to John Sanders for encouraging them to make a unified student voice heard throughout the state.
Thank you, Mr. Sanders and congratulations to this year’s award winner, Fayetteville State University’s chancellor, and strong voice of advocacy for all students throughout the UNC system: Dr. Lloyd V. Hackley, Jr.
